AU “Real Food” Fest in Auburn, AL

August 9, 2012 By Annie

Auburn is having it’s first (I think) celebration of a Slow Food project that is slowly moving throughout the country. “Slow Food” is a movement centered around real food that is not processed and is as local as possible, as well as sustainably grown. This is all very near and dear to my heart! Really cool stuff here…

There is going to be a dinner at the AU Club on September 29th at 5:00. The chefs featured will be Rob McDaniel, Tasia Malakasis, Wesley True, Leonardo Maurelli III, Michael Bertozzi, Graham Hage, Melissa Harris, David Bancroft and more to be named. If you are a local, you know that these are some of the very best chefs in our area. The food is sure to be devine.

The folks supplying the beverages are also some really special people: Good People (some of my dear friends), Back Forty Beer Company, Straight to Ale, Pinnacle Wine Imports, and International Wine Company.

The cost is $40/ticket, and the theme is going to be Blue Jeans—Bluegrass—Gourmet Tailgate Foods! My husband Brycen and I are contemplating making this our anniversary dinner we are so excited!

The purpose of the event: “To raise awareness of the new Slow Food Auburn University Chapter by bringing together students, faculty, farmers, and community members to celebrate Alabama’s rich culture and highlight the abundance of up and coming Alabama artisans. We want this even to sow the seed in Auburn for the cultivation of an Alabama food movement.”

The guest speaker will be the founder of Jones Valley Urban Farms in Birmingham, Edwin Marty.

Music will be by Adam Hood and Acoustic Guitarist Ben Sutton.

Can’t wait! Hope to see you there!
