If you’ve ever been to Chewacla State Park, you are aware of what a gem it truly is. With hiking trails, gorgeous lakes and waterfalls, creeks, bike paths, play grounds, as well as places for grilling and camping, it has a little something for everyone.
The unmatchable beauty of Chewacla has earned the park the 2015 Certificate of Excellance from TripAdvisor along with nine other Alabama parks. This is the second year in a row Chewacla State Park has earned this recognition from TripAdvisor, a travel website featuring traveler-generated content and reviews.
Five years ago, the Certificate of Excellence was created to honor excellence in hospitality, given only to establishments that frequently earn positive traveler reviews on TripAdvisor.
Knowing that the award directly reflects the reviews of park visitors makes it all the more special, said O’Dell Banks, Chewacla park manager. “These are people who actually come visit you; you have no control on what they put on (the website) or anything,” Banks said. “As the manager, it lets me know that all the hard work that the employees are doing is being recognized by guests that are coming in.
They’re appreciating everything from the groundskeepers cutting grass to the people cleaning cabins — they all have to receive good marks in order for us to get it. We have to maintain it and fill in that last little star to make it a five instead of a four and a half (rating).”
The other nine Alabama parks that received the award are DeSoto, Gulf, Joe Wheeler, Monte Sano, Cathedral Caverns, Cheaha, Lake Guntersville, Oak Mountain and Wind Creek state parks.
