The Cities of Opelika and Auburn invite the public to join in several events on Wednesday, Nov. 11, to celebrate Veterans Day.
Activities in Opelika will begin with a breakfast for veterans and their families at Irish Bred Pub in downtown Opelika. Owner Steve Nutter and the Happy Hour Rotary Club, a satellite club of the Opelika Rotary Club, will be serving a delectable breakfast menu to local veterans and their families as a way of saying thank you to veterans for their sacrifices and service.
At 10 a.m., a Veterans Day service will take place at the Veterans Memorial Monument at City Hall in Opelika, featuring special guest speaker Alabama Sen. Tom Whatley, R-Auburn. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held inside City Hall in the City Council Chambers.
Following the service at City Hall, the Museum of East Alabama, 121 S. Ninth St. in downtown Opelika, will host a reception at 11 a.m. to honor all veterans.
An annual Veterans Day program will be presented at 11:30 a.m. at Harris Funeral Home.
In Auburn, residents are invited to the city of Auburn’s Veteran’s Day ceremony at the Auburn Veterans Memorial on the corner of Ross Street and Glenn Avenue beginning at 10 a.m. on Veteran’s Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.Auburn Mayor Bill Ham Jr. will officiate, and a reception will be held at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce immediately following the ceremony.
Attendees are encouraged to park at Felton Little Park and the Douglas J. Watson Municipal Complex. Parking for the disabled will be available on Ross Street between Glenn and Harper avenues, which will be closed to through traffic during the ceremony. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in City Council Chambers at 141 North Ross Street.
