at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Art Southern Circuit of Independent Filmmakers provides communities across the South with a tour of highly talented independent filmmakers. It is the nation’s only regional tour of independent filmmakers, providing communities with an interactive way of experiencing independent film. Join us for the film screening at 6 pm and for free coffee, dessert and discussion with the filmmaker directly following the film. This film follows five ordinary Russians living in extraordinary times — from their sheltered Soviet childhood, to the collapse of the Soviet Union during their teenage years, to the constantly shifting political landscape of post-Soviet Russia. Together, these childhood classmates paint a complex picture of the dreams and disillusionment of those raised behind the Iron Curtain. This event is free and open to the public.

ART IN THE GARDEN
at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Art The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University will host the third Art in the Garden event! There will be wine, fabulous food, music and landscape vignettes again this year. You can also bid on items during the silent auction which lasts throughout the evening. Special guest, James Farmer will be demonstrating how to live the “Garden Life” at this year’s Art in the Garden. James is a Georgia native and was raised learning how to pick from the family garden for food, décor and flavor in his home. James believes that cooking and gardening go hand in hand and anyone can be taught to live organically no matter their skill level or budget. Through his love of entertaining from the garden, James began to arrange flowers and consult on flower and food choices for a variety of events. James is a regular contributor to Southern Living magazine and his first book was released in September 2011, A Time to Plant, which takes you from gardening to entertaining. Proceeds from Art in the Garden benefit JCSM exhibitions and educational programs. Tickets are $75 per person.

2012 AUBURN JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL
at The Pavilion at Ag Heritage Park (S. Donahue Dr.) Each spring since 2008, the Auburn Arts Association (AAA) has held a Jazz & Blues Festival to raise money for their various community art programs and classes they conduct throughout the year. In 2012, the event will be held Saturday, May 19th, from 6-11 pm. The Auburn Jazz & Blues Fest has always been a family-friendly, and in 2012 kids 14 and under will get in free with a parent. The Jazz & Blues Fest is primarily attended by adults, and has a ‘grown up’ atmosphere. Last year we were able to net almost $6,000 after the expenses of the event were paid, representing a 50% increase over our previous high. Our goal for the 2011 Auburn Jazz & Blues Festival is to raise $10,000 after the night’s expenses have been paid. This event is the largest single fundraiser for the Auburn Arts Association in a given year. The change of venue will lead to additional costs this year, but we can accommodate a much larger crowd and offer our patrons more parking, so it should be a positive move overall. 334-332-6136

FACING SOUTH: PORTRAITS OF SOUTHERN ARTISTS BY JERRY SIEGEL
at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Art Jerry Siegel’s photographic portraits of southern visual artists compose a highly personal survey of some of the most interesting inhabitants of our region. An Alabama native, Siegel has spent years traveling the area to capture the likenesses of both well-known and emerging artists in their familiar settings. Facing South assembles 100 black-and-white and color portraits of Siegel’s subjects, including Benny Andrews, Radcliffe Bailey, William Christenberry, Lamar Dodd, Ida Kohlmeyer, Charlie Lucas, Charles Shannon, and Kathryn Windham. Expressive, intimate, and evocative, Siegel’s body of work offers sensitive insights into the region’s creative soul. This event is free and open to the public.
